Berkeley is a Northwest Denver community, conveniently located near both Interstate 70 and Interstate 25. This neighborhood is bound by 38th Avenue, Sheridan Boulevard, I-70, and Federal Boulevard.
Because of its close proximity to the West Highland community, Berkeley is often mistakenly grouped with the Highlands neighborhood. This family-oriented community has two beautiful lakes, both surrounded by local parks.
Berkeley Lake Park stretches from Tennyson Street to Sheridan Boulevard and from I-70 to 46th Avenue. Rocky Mountain Lake Park stretches from I-70 to 46th Avenue and from Irving Street to Lowell Boulevard. The Berkeley Lake Park is home to the William Scheitler Recreation Center, which contains both indoor and outdoor public swimming pools.
Tennyson Street has effectively become a cultural and commercial center within the Northwest Denver area. Congressman Rick Garcia successfully rallied for further development of the street during the 2011 local elections. Voters approved public funding of $2.5 million to continue development in hopes of competing with the nearby Highland Square.
Residents enjoy shopping at locally owned art galleries, spas, and boutiques as well as dining at local restaurants, all about five miles from the Downtown Denver area. The revitalized art community and cute storefronts add to the local appeal.
One of the popular local business highlights is the Art Walk. Here, Tennyson Street business owners collaborate on the first Friday of every month. This diverse community has seen some rapid local growth over the years. There has also been an increase in real estate values within the last two decades.
